Code Of Conduct Tribunal Finally Suspends Saraki’s Trial

Bukola-SarakiThe Code of Conduct on Monday suspended the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki in deference to the Supreme Court, which ordered a stay of proceedings at the Tribunal pending the determination of his appeal.
The Senate president, who is standing trial on a13-count criminal charge, to which he had pleaded not guilty, was slated to appear at the tribunal yesterday for the continuation of hearing.
The suspension of Saraki’s trial at the CCT was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja by its Public Relations Officer, Ibraheem Alhassan.
Mr. Alhassan said the decision to suspend hearing was to show due respect to the apex court’s directive for stay of proceedings.
“The case was slated for hearing on Nov. 23, but as a mark of respect for the apex court, the tribunal decided to tarry a while pending the determination of Saraki’s appeal challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal to try him”, he said.
