Twin bombings, police arraign 5 in court
According to a statement from Force Headquarters, the five suspects were arrested at Karamajiji Village, behind National Military Cemetery along Airport Road, Abuja and dangerous bombing tools which include I-pad, Laptop and Phones believed to be used as materials for making bombs were recovered from them.
Vanguard had reported exclusively that shortly before the twin bomb blasts, security agencies intercepted telephone conversations between some accomplices in Kaduna state and the collaborators in Abuja discussing the plot to attack Kuje Prisons and blow it up with a view to setting the prisoners free.
The Kaduna accomplices were later arrested by operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) but before security agencies could track and arrest the collaborators in Abuja, the bombers struck killing and injuring many.
The statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Acting ACP Olabisi Kolawole said, “The Nigeria Police Force has carried out the arraignment in court of five suspects in the October 2, 2015 twin bombings in Kuje and Nyanya areas of Abuja.
It said IGP Solomon Arase ordered the arraignment of the suspects at the Federal High Court, Abuja for prosecution on October 22nd, after careful and discreet investigations into the recent bombings that took place in some parts of Abuja were carried out by the Nigeria Police Force.
The IGP further said the arrest of the suspects was made possible by the proactive nature of the newly formed Intelligence Response Team.
Continuing, the IGP warned Nigerians to avoid the temptation of picking i-pad, phones or laptops not owned or kept by them, as terrorists now use these items in manufacturing bombs, knowing its attractions and needs to the people.
